Reporting directly to the Associate Director within Geotechnics you will a key member within this close-knit and multidisciplinary team. Geotechnics is a growing group currently comprised of 30+ enthusiastic professional staff working on a wide variety of exacting, high-profile and challenging projects.  Our current workload comprises a mixture of local and international projects.
 
Role
 
Working very closely with both the team and the Senior Geologist, you will be primarily involved in geological data compilation for the various projects, as well as site supervision, data acquisition, quality control, interpretation, and reporting.
A proven ability to take geotechnical projects from site investigations and desk study through interpretation and detailed design will be necessary, together with a strong capability in analysis and excellent report writing skills. Experience of preparing geological ground models and of relevant geological numerical analysis packages required. Site experience undertaking geological mapping  and overseeing site investigation is essential and an understanding of the construction of ‘groundworks’ elements would be advantageous.
Typical responsibilities will include:
•       collecting, analysing and interpreting data including manipulation of  AGS database and related tools such as gINT
•         accessing, using and analysing site information (such as radar images, aerial photographs, reports and geological maps) prior to site investigations
•         visiting sites and site supervision of GI contractors
•         preparing geological models and geological interpretative reports
•         providing advice and information to clients on a range of issues including for example mining, subsidence and construction materials etc
•         ensuring that projects keep to budgets and timescales
•         managing and liaising with designers and contractors
•         planning, organising and undertaking field work/site investigations
•         geological recce and mapping
•         utilising specialist computer applications eg relating to structural geological aspects.
 
The candidate must be a team player with good interpersonal skills, an ability to work with minimum supervision and be keen to provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced members of the team.
 
 
Requirements
 
Essential Skills and Knowledge
•         At least 4 years experience is likely to apply with significant knowledge of UK superficial geology in particular, including peri-glacial and weathering effects
•         Some knowledge of global geological aspects including tropical soils and seismic issues (tectonics/faulting)
•         Logical methodical approach supported by strong numerical and analytical ability.
•         Sound communication and interpersonal skills (including formal and informal presentation, written communications and reports)
•         Ability to communicate complex geological ideas to the layman
Ability to relate and work well with people at all levels within the teams and within the wider office, as well as externally with clients and contractors
•         Flexible and mobile ie prepared to travel away from base
•         Full driver’s license
Desirable skills and knowledge:
•         Hydrogeological assessments
•         Some overseas experience would be an advantage
•         Multi-lingual is desirable (European language is particularly so)
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Geological Sciences or  Engineering Geology with a relevant
post graduate qualification
Chartered (or significant progression) with a relevant body.
