TRAINEE ENGINEER – SPILL RESPONSE AND REMEDIATION FIELD ENGINEER

The Company:

Our client is a specialist contracting business that delivers remediation solutions to environmental and contamination issues. With inhouse expertise and specialist remediation equipment they provide field services and support to environmental consultancies, managing environment emergencies, spills of chemicals etc. and providing practical and cost-effective solutions to brownfield land and water pollution issues.

Main Purpose of Job:

The suitable candidate will work as a Remediation Field Engineer and will spend majority of their time working at various locations across the country. The bulk of the work will be on domestic properties where ground clean up involving dig outs will be carried out. The candidate will be keen to learn, customer service orientated and a hardworking, self-motivated team player.

The Role:

The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of projects, initially working with the company managers and clients to understand the scope and technical complexity of the projects, then undertaking the field services needed to deliver the schemes. Field work will require a reasonable level of practical skills as well as general manual handling tasks common to a building site however it will require an understanding of the project as a whole. A lot of the tasks will require the use of hand tools and power tools for construction of pumping and water treatment systems. In addition the work will require candidates to use digger, dumper and other machinery to complete excavations. Safety is a priority at the company therefore the role will require the preparation of safety paperwork and risk assessments and management of specialist subcontractors as well as collection of field data and drafting of reports. Based near Cambourne, Cambridgeshire and the Trainee, Remediation Field Engineer role requires daily travel to clients’ sites, so a full driving license and the flexibility to stay away from home from time to time is necessary.

Person Specification/ Qualifications:

 Ground working experience is required, and of benefit would be skills such as: laying patios and lawns, building of garden fencing, bricklaying.

 General building works experience is also of benefit.

 CSCS card, digger, dumper tickets etc. are beneficial but not essential, as training will be provided.

 Love of the outdoors, an excellent work ethic and an enthusiasm to learn

 Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.

 Minimum age of 21 (21 with own vehicle, 25 to be insured on company vehicle)

 A full driving licence (held for at least 1 year)

 The flexibility to travel and stay away from home as necessary (1 or 2 nights away quite frequently, 1 or 2 weeks away a couple of times a year)

 Ability to work under pressure and meet required deadlines.

 Ability to work in a team as well as the ability to work independently when required.

 Passport for travel outside the UK (some international travel may be required)

 Use of Microsoft Office suite.

 Right to work in UK.

Career Progression:

Full training will be provided and there will be the opportunity to progress into team and project management as the business continues to expand. We will also be putting the successful candidate through spill response, digger and dumper driving, first aid and other practical skills training courses as well as offering the right candidate site supervisor and / or manager safety training to support project management work as his or her career progresses.
