Summary Description of Role
This role is pivotal in the development of the Southern region within the piling discipline. Substantial experience will be gained in CFA, CHD, Tubular Steel and Precast driven piles for a market leading specialist renowned for innovation and development.

 

Reporting to the Area Manager, you will cover all aspects of the regional piling work winning activities with a certain level of autonomy (depending on experience), in respect of pile design and technical sales including CFA, CHD, Tubular Steel and Precast Driven. Some overlap may occur with the Mini piling team in respect of technical support and sales, and liaison with other regions will be required in terms of sales intelligence, pricing levels and R and D.

 

This role offers much diversity in terms of work activities from design, through estimating, technical sales and then follow up, in a demanding yet extremely challenging environment working for a highly regarded specialist.

 

Design will include bearing piles, tension piles laterally loaded piles and retaining walls. Design includes both tender and contract design and site redesign as required.

 

The individual will manage all incoming piling enquiries, including assessment of opportunities and allocation of tenders/designs and includes estimating, tendering and client interaction / negotiation to the point where orders are secured, and provide ongoing support throughout the life of a project if required.

 

There will be some work providing support dealing with site issues as and when these arise. This includes contract redesigns, rectification of design issues and liaising with external approving authorities and Engineers if required.

 

Reporting to the Area Manager the role should provide effective control of the Technical and Estimating element of the discipline ensuring compliance with the company management system and business strategy.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assess suitability of incoming enquiries for tendering
  • Ensure that all estimates are prepared in line with Work Instruction Documents
  • Determine best solution for piling schemes liaising with the “Package Foundations” team to ascertain if alternatives are appropriate to generate additional work
  • Undertake estimating activities, ensuring that estimates are delivered in such a manner that maximises the potential to obtain the order.
  • Submit tenders by required tender dates.
  • Liaise with group companies for schemes not suitable for the RB piling systems
  • Chase up submitted tenders
  • Prepare and submit formal design packages for live projects.
  • Arrange handover of new work from the sales team to the contracts team.
  • Maintain design responsibility for piling changes that occur post order receipt.
  • Maintain a detailed understanding of all piling techniques and design standards maintaining a competitive if not leading edge in pile design and construction, liaising closely with the companies Chief Geotechnical Engineer.
  • Attend pretender and site/client visits with Contracts Manager/QS to ensure high standards of customer care.
·         Implement and manage an effective working winning business strategy to meet targets and budgets set by the company.
  • Manage departmental staff in accordance with company procedures including; motivation of the team, work allocation, employee performance management, training and development, employee holidays and absence management.
  • Maintain and improve the professional and progressive image of the Company.
·         Manage the business in association with the business unit management team.  Ensure good liaison between disciplines and departments acting immediately on any issues for the benefit of the business and company as a whole.  Overall work together as a team to ensure ongoing business growth and coherent approach to customer relationships.
Other Duties:
·         Attend and participate in marketing events, as required.
·         Foster good working relationships with clients whilst maintaining and improving the professional image of the company.
·         Any other reasonable duties required by the business.

 

Area Specific Duties:
·         Preferably a Chartered Civil Engineer
