Our client is a successful multi-disciplinary consultancy with 13 offices throughout the UK employing approximately 500 staff. At the heart of their business lies a group of outstanding people. Working together with clients, they deliver solutions to challenging problems in Mining & Minerals, Infrastructure & Energy, and Property & Development.

The Opportunity:

Their Ground Engineering team is seeking a Junior Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering Geologist to start immediately, with a minimum of 6 to 12 months’ experience, to work out of their Cardiff office.

In this role you will:

  • Undertake Phase 1 Desk Studies with a focus on geotechnical, geological and mining aspects
  • Supervise ground investigation works including managing rigs, site activities and logging of soils and rock (in accordance with current UK standards)
  • Assist with preparation of health & safety documentation before and during site works
  • Assist with the specification and supervision of in-situ testing and sampling in accordance with UK specifications and current technical standards
  • Liaise with clients, engineers, contractors and sub-contractors throughout the site work phase
  • Assist in the preparation of contract documentation and administration of contracts
  • Process and managing site data using spreadsheets and inhouse programmes
  • Support with geotechnical data assessment and analysis
  • Assist with the development of factual and interpretive conceptual ground models, ground investigation reports and geotechnical design reports

 

About you:

As the successful candidate you will:

  • Have a BSc in Geology, Engineering Geology, Earth Sciences, Geotechnical Engineering, or similar, an MSc would be advantageous
  • Be a Fellow/Associate Member of a professional body and working towards Chartership
  • Have a willingness and ability to travel regularly to site locations across the UK
  • Have a full UK driving licence
