We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our client. Working in an experienced and growing team based in Bristol, you will get involved with a wide variety of geo-environmental and geotechnical projects including: investigations in relation to commercial and residential development, energy infrastructure, logistics, healthcare, environmental permitting and Part IIA. Key clients include residential developers, Tier 1 contractors, Shell and local authorities.

What you can expect in this position?

As a Main grade member of the team you will be expected to lead or assist in the delivery of geo-environmental and geotechnical projects and will therefore be able to demonstrate sound technical capabilities along with an appreciation of commercial and project management requirements. It is expected that employees working at this grade will have a good understanding of project finance awareness, be self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Undertaking geo-environmental reporting including Phase 1 PRA, Factual and Interpretative with GQRA, Remedial Strategies and Verification with senior staff support as necessary
  • Supervising site investigation works covering a wide range of techniques including trial pitting, dynamic sampling, cable percussive drilling and rotary core/open hole drilling
  • Supervising in-situ testing such as plate loading, CBR and soakaways
  • Soil and rock logging to current UK standards, including laboratory scheduling
  • Undertaking ground gas, vapour and groundwater monitoring
  • Effectively communicating with clients and colleagues to build strong working relationships with the aim of meeting and exceeding client expectations, and contributing to a strong team ethic
  • Stewardship of health, safety and environment in accordance with company standards and contribute to sustainability goals

What we’re looking for:

  • Practical experience in supervising and managing site investigations for geo-environmental and/ or geotechnical assessments
  • An understanding of geo-environmental and geotechnical testing and the limitations
  • An understanding of geology, ground investigation works, contaminated land, geotechnics
  • Able to complete factual and interpretative assessments to a good level
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of contaminated land and planning legislation in the UK is beneficial
  • Ability to multi-task, plan and prioritise workload
  • Client-driven with the ability to motivate and engage with immediate colleagues and those across the wider RSK business
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Computer literate and skilled with Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience of use of Microsoft Project also valuable.
  • Full UK driving licence

Qualifications/ Certification

  • BSc degree level qualified in Geology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering or a related subject essential
  • MSc in Land contamination/ hydrogeology or Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering or Contaminated Land preferable but not essential
  • Working towards Chartered status with a relevant institution
  • Typically requires at least 2-5 years specific relevant experience
