Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer – Leeds

The role is within our clients Geotechnical Engineering Design (GED) section consisting of a range of Geotechnical Engineers and Engineering Geologists working on projects across the UK and abroad.

You must be qualified with a geo-engineering bias and ideally with second degrees in relevant geo-engineering subjects. Able to demonstrate a genuine interest in this field and ideally have work experience in this discipline. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects including large scale, awarding winning, highways schemes, brownfield redevelopment sites, defense schemes, commercial developments, water and other infrastructure projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Your responsibilities and role will predominantly be in the geotechnical sector to include;

_    Geotechnical desk studies
_    Development of ground models
_    Derivation of material parameters
_    Foundation design to EC7
_    Earthworks assessment and specification
_    Soil and rock slope engineering
_    Geotechnical reporting (PSSRs, GIRs, GDRs)

  • First degree in Engineering Geology, Geotechnics or Civil Engineering (upper second class honours degree or above) or first degree in Geology combined with a Master’s degree in Engineering Geology or Geotechnics.
  • To have or to be working towards a recognised professional qualification and membership of appropriate professional bodies.
  • Strong interpersonal / team working skills, with a good working relationship with all levels of the organisation, clients and contractors.
  • Experience or knowledge of working to relevant UK Geotechnical Standards (EC7, BS5930, BS8002, 8004 etc).
  • Experience or knowledge of Highways England and Network Rail Standards and technical guidance to CD622 Managing Geotechnical Risk.
  • Familiarity with relevant software packages such as MS Project, Word, Excel, AutoCAD and geotechnical design software etc.
  • Ideally some experience with geotechnical software packages such as Slide, Wallap, 2D Plaxis or similar.
  • The ability to communicate in a fluent and positive manner with other team members and to produce reports in clear English.
