Our client are recruiting for talented and motivated candidates who want to develop their career with a global consultancy, working on challenging, interesting and innovative projects.

They are specifically looking for a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join the Geo-environmental teams located across the UK.  The role is within the Geotechnical Engineering Design (GED) section consisting a range of Geotechnical/ Civil Engineers and Engineering Geologists on projects across the UK and abroad.

The candidate will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects including highways infrastructure, rock slope engineering, major earthworks and foundation design in the domestic and industrial building sector, defense and flood protection schemes. Occasional opportunities arise overseas, including the Middle East, Caribbean and West Africa.

Opportunities will be afforded that may lead to rapid progression to more senior roles.

The responsibilities and role will predominantly be in the geotechnical sector.  The candidate will need to combine ambition, insight and confidence with a commitment to giving clients the very best solutions.

The candidate will be an effective communicator and will be prepared to make sound engineering decisions in the technical direction and delivery of a wide portfolio of projects. The candidate will see projects through opportunity pursuit, bid, delivery and completion stages and in addition will take responsibility for the timely delivery of project output. They will show an aptitude for project management and financial management.

Main duties will include:

  • Geotechnical desk studies
  • Development of ground models
  • Geotechnical design to EC7
  • Earthworks assessment and specification
  • Soil and rock slope engineering
  • Ground Investigation Reports (GIRs)
  • Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs)
  • Geotechnical Feedback Reports (GFRs)
  • Project and financial management

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator and will be prepared to make sound engineering decisions in the technical direction and delivery of a wide portfolio of projects. You will see projects through opportunity pursuit, bid, delivery and completion stages and in addition will take responsibility for the timely delivery of project output.  You will show an aptitude for project management and financial management.

You should be qualified with a degree in civil engineering or geology, emphasis will be given to candidates with a second degree in a geotechnical engineering or engineering geology related subject.

Candidates will preferably be Chartered Engineers (CEng) or Geologists (CGeol) or close to submission of a chartership application to the relevant professional body. Successful candidates will demonstrate a genuine interest in geotechnical engineering and construction and have proven experience in ground risk management, particularly in the transportation, water, energy and building sectors. The candidate shall demonstrate a thorough understanding of UK Standards (EC7, CD622, BS8002, BS8004 etc) within a multi-discipline scenario.

In addition, it is expected that you will be familiar with current geotechnical engineering design software such as SLOPE/SLOPEW, PDISP, WALLAP and PLAXIS 2D and be proficient in the use of some of these within practical applications. It is necessary that you have good communication skills and are particularly experienced in the preparation of technical reports and proposals.
